Job Overview

Aviation Specialties Unlimited is seeking an experienced NVG Instructor Pilot to join our team. As a key member of our flight operations team, you will be responsible for providing ground and flight instruction in accordance with our Flight Operations/Company Training Manuals.

Responsibilities
  • Comply with all applicable Federal Aviation Regulations and departmental policies and procedures in the accomplishment of safe and efficient operations.
  • Ensure pre-flight preparation of the flight plan taking into consideration maintenance performed serviceability, weather, aircraft limitations, fuel requirements, destination and alternate airport requirements.
  • Conduct thorough pre-flights and post flights.
  • Conduct safe, quality training flights.
  • Prepare, conduct, develop, and revise training curriculum.
  • Use company training material when available, and when not, develop, write, review, and revise pilot training programs to meet customer needs.
  • Organize time table and student enrollment for individual courses as needed.
  • Teach assigned program/curriculum, ensuring all course objectives are met.
  • Develop appropriate course outlines, lesson plans, exams, and curriculum in the absence of current company material if necessary.
  • Collect, organize, grade, and file training records in archives for safe recordkeeping.
  • Conduct examination review and failure analysis.
  • Ensure students meet all course prerequisites.
  • Ensure graduation certificates are properly prepared and issued in a timely fashion.
  • Ensure all manuals and documents involved with the training are up to date and complete.
  • Debriefs students to enhance strengths and improve any areas of weakness in their performance.
  • Obtains feedback in the performance of their own duties from students and superiors alike.
  • Maintains current FAA Medical and all associated pilot certificates.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional aviation experience.
  • FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate Rotorcraft and/or Airplane Single Engine Land.
  • FAA Certified NVG Flight Instructor Rotorcraft and/or Airplane Single Engine Land.
  • NVG Flight Instruction experience, 2000 Flight Hours (1,500 in helicopters, at least 500 hours as Pilot in Command and minimum 200 hours NVG).
  • Ground School Instructor Experience.
  • Management and leadership capabilities.
  • Must be able sit in various helicopter cockpits for long periods of time.
  • Be able to lift or carry up to 50 pounds of flight gear as needed.
  • Able to climb helicopters in the performance of preflight/post flight duties.
  • Be able to perform administrative duties for long periods in support of flight operations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Extensive/advanced Flight Instruction experience (mountain, NVG, overwater, etc.).
  • 2500 Flight Hours Combined (1,000 hours as an instructor in helicopters and/or airplanes).

  • The Instructor Pilot should possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be effective in establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with subordinates and various officials of public or private entities.
  • Must be able to work under broad supervision, disciplined and able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Skilled in developing techniques and methodologies to resolve unprecedented problems or situations.
  • Able to work well under pressure in fast-paced and noisy environment while exercising sound judgment at all times.
  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of instruction, human behavior, defense mechanisms and the various levels of learning.
  • Able to work early, late, or on the weekend as needed.

  • Knowledge of FARs, ACs, & FSIMS.
  • Experience with SOPs & Part 135 manuals.

  • Analytical ability to evaluate data & info to make operational decisions.
  • Effective interpersonal aptitude.
