We are seeking a highly skilled Agriculture Compliance Specialist to join our team at the Georgia Department of Agriculture (GDA). As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in protecting and promoting Georgia's agriculture through superior service and leadership.
The successful candidate will be responsible for inspecting and investigating food manufacturing facilities to ensure compliance with applicable rules and regulations. You will also be responsible for collecting samples of food finished products, processed products, environmental swabs, and water samples as necessary from all firms in assigned areas of responsibility.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Conducting inspections and investigations to ensure compliance with state and federal health and food sanitation laws, rules, and regulations.
- Collecting and transporting samples to laboratories for analysis within the prescribed timeframe.
- Providing knowledge, skills, and experience to assist and guide colleagues and management.
- Maintaining a working knowledge of current policies, laws, regulations, and guidance documents.
- Attending training sessions, meetings, and conferences.
- Providing consultation, information sharing, technical assistance, and in-service training to food personnel, industry, and other personnel regarding health and food sanitation, rules and regulations, and their enforcement.
- Maintaining working relationships with the food industry and related entities, including federal, state, and local agencies.
- Preparing and completing agency, state, and federal forms as required.
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in agronomy, animal science, biology, chemistry, or a related area from an accredited college or university, or certification as a Registered Sanitarian or Environmental Health Specialist. Additionally, the candidate should have one to two years of experience conducting inspections and investigations for compliance or certification as a Registered Sanitarian or Environmental Health Specialist.
