Job SummaryThe Corrections Agent will provide supervisory, referral, and intervention services to individuals under supervision to transform lives and protect public safety. This role requires strong human relations skills, effective communication, and the ability to make case decisions and set priorities.
Responsibilities- Complete assessments of individuals to determine recommended supervision levels and prepare case plans.
- Supervise individuals to monitor behavior and compliance with probation/releasing authority conditions, completing progress reports and apprehension/detention orders as needed.
- Testify in court as required.
- Prepare diagnostic, pre- and post-dispositional investigation reports on individuals for use by the courts, correctional staff, and releasing authority.
- One year of work experience with clients from diverse backgrounds in corrections, social work, social services, education, chemical dependency, mental health, residential treatment, or related fields.
- Completion of a bachelor's degree may substitute for one year of experience; completion of an associate's degree may substitute for six months of experience.
- Ability to document and maintain client case records, human relations skills, and oral and written communication skills.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Completion of a degree in Corrections, Criminal Justice, Criminology, Counseling, Counseling Psychology, Education, Law, Law Enforcement, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, or a Human Services-related field with an emphasis in corrections/criminal justice.
- Experience working with the Minnesota Department of Corrections or another jurisdiction as a Probation Officer or Case Manager.
- Experience completing risk/needs assessments, case planning, and applying intervention techniques based on research-based principles.
