Capital Region Communications Manager

The Albany Media Liaison is responsible for overseeing daily communications and managing press inquiries that impact the Capital Region. This role involves crafting communication strategies, campaigns, and long-term plans for special interests within the area, in collaboration with other communications and press personnel, as well as the Intergovernmental Affairs team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work in close partnership with the Press Secretary to address incoming inquiries, engage with reporters, and pinpoint news opportunities within the Capital Region.
- Oversee the daily press strategy for the area, which includes coordinating and reviewing press releases, statements, and other communication materials alongside the Director of Press Operations and Deputy Press Secretaries.
- Engage directly with administrative agencies, authorities, and local governments in the Capital Region to develop communication and messaging strategies that support the administration's initiatives.
- Collaborate with Deputy and Associate Communications Directors to formulate communication and press plans that align with the Governor's objectives.
- Lead the planning of public events in the Capital Region to effectively convey key issues, working closely with Deputy Press Secretaries and Deputy Communications Directors on messaging, press operations, and logistics.
- Manage press advance for public events in Albany and assist the Press Secretary in staffing the Governor and other Senior Staff during public engagements.
- Carry out additional responsibilities as needed.
Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree and a minimum of 6-8 years of progressively responsible experience in journalism, communications, public affairs, or a related field.
- Preferred experience in handling communications or press inquiries relevant to the assigned portfolio.
Additional Information:
This position may require evening and weekend work on a regular basis.
