Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Head Start Cook to join our team at the YMCA of Frederick County. As a key member of our kitchen staff, you will be responsible for preparing and serving healthy meals and snacks to our children and families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and serve meals and snacks in accordance with USDA/CACFP standards and Head Start Performance Standards.
  • Order, receive, and store food and supplies in a safe and sanitary manner.
  • Maintain a clean and organized kitchen environment, adhering to health and food safety codes.
  • Collaborate with the Nutrition Coordinator to plan and implement menus and kitchen operations.
  • Provide excellent customer service to families and staff, responding to their needs and concerns in a positive and helpful manner.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; experience in food service preferred.
  • Knowledge of food preparation and storage techniques, as well as local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to sanitation and food service.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work sensitively with staff, children, and parents.
  • Ability to lift and carry food and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds, and to stand for long periods of time in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
