About New York Junior Tennis & Learning

New York Junior Tennis and Learning (NYJTL) stands as one of the foremost afterschool tennis and education-focused community organizations in the United States. We provide extensive school and community-based initiatives across New York City's five boroughs, positively impacting over 100,000 youth aged 5-18. Our afterschool program ensures that children have safe and supportive environments where they can excel academically while receiving essential guidance to achieve their full potential, both on and off the tennis court.

Position Overview

The Site Director is responsible for overseeing and managing the daily operations of NYJTL's afterschool program at one of our numerous locations. This role involves supervising staff and delivering school-based afterschool programming to youth. The Site Director will also implement NYJTL's program curriculum effectively while managing an Assistant Site Director, Group Leaders, and Activity Specialists.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the delivery of a high-quality youth development program that aligns with NYJTL's mission and vision, incorporating strong leadership skills and engaging activities for participants.
  • Achieve enrollment targets and maintain a successful Rate of Participation (ROP).
  • Train all staff in the operational aspects of the program.
  • Ensure adequate staffing ratios during all childcare hours, including breaks and short-term absences.
  • Supervise staff and collaborate with the Education Specialist to develop and implement the educational curriculum.
  • Adhere to and uphold the State's qualifications and training requirements for the SACC-License.
  • Effectively execute program operations and policies to meet established goals and requirements.
  • Experience working with children from diverse backgrounds is preferred.
  • Conduct timely performance evaluations of staff and address any behavior not aligned with NYJTL guidelines.
  • Possess knowledge of DOH, DOE, and DYCD regulations and manage site inspections.
  • Develop and manage complex budgets while ensuring adherence to financial constraints.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with school staff, community members, and partners to enhance program development and service delivery.
  • Maintain all required administrative records and files in compliance with program requirements.
  • Ensure the safety and appearance of the facility.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Child Development, Elementary Education, Physical Education, or a related field is required.
  • A minimum of two years of supervisory and management experience in developing and implementing youth programs, including staff training and evaluation.
  • Availability during standard school hours and some holidays is necessary.
  • Demonstrated skills in program outreach, recruitment, budgeting, and compliance with SACC licensing procedures.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, programming, and organizational skills.
  • Exhibit qualities that we aim to instill in our students, such as confidence, creativity, conflict resolution, and a passion for the arts.
  • Ability to connect with young people and serve as a positive adult role model.
  • Proficiency in various computer applications and a willingness to learn new technologies.
  • Maintain confidentiality and exercise appropriate discretion.
