Job Description

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Postdoctoral Appointee to join our team at Argonne National Laboratory. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting experimental research in high-temperature chemical kinetics, focusing on the study of radicals and molecules.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop novel experimental systems, including shock tubes and laser systems, to study high-temperature chemical kinetics.
  • Conduct experiments using these systems, collecting and analyzing data to gain insights into radical and molecular behavior.
  • Collaborate with theoreticians to develop a comprehensive understanding of complex chemical systems.
  • Develop and apply methods using laser systems, including UV detection of radicals and VUV photoionization.
  • Conduct laboratory studies and experiments at User Facilities, including photoionization mass spectrometry and small angle x-ray scattering.

Requirements:

  • Ph.D. degree in a relevant field, such as chemistry or physics, with 0-5 years of experience.
  • Considerable experience in gas-phase kinetics, experimental techniques, and chemical kinetic simulations.
  • Strong background in laser and optical systems, mass spectrometry, and programming languages such as LabVIEW and Python.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to model Argonne's Core Values: Impact, Safety, Respect, Integrity, and Teamwork.
