Position Overview:
- This specialized 30-bed unit is dedicated to delivering care to patients with primary cardiac conditions, as well as to medical patients requiring cardiac telemetry monitoring. The Cardiac Intermediate Unit is supported by a team of registered nurses, certified nursing assistants, health unit coordinators, and monitor technicians. Staff members benefit from the guidance of clinical educators and advanced practice nurses.
- Core Responsibilities: Utilizing the Quality Caring Model, the role involves demonstrating proficient performance and applying the nursing process to plan and manage the care of routine patients. This includes patient and family education, as well as planning for continuity of care. Effective communication of essential patient and family information to the healthcare team is crucial. The nurse will identify and relay any variances from patient goals and is responsible for providing and coordinating interdisciplinary patient care through the nursing process.
- Licensure & Certification Requirements:
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program; a basic professional nursing degree (BSN or MSN) is preferred.
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) from the Maryland Board of Nursing or a Compact State.
- BLS Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association; additional life support training may be required based on unit needs.
- Professional specialty certifications may be necessary, in accordance with departmental standards or role requirements.
- Essential Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Current understanding of nursing skills and practices.
- Proficiency in computer and audiovisual skills, including various applications such as internet, email, and word processing.
- Ability to retrieve and interpret data effectively.
- Strong command of English for reading, writing, and comprehension.
- Effective hand-eye coordination and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, organize, and prioritize effectively.
- Capability to work collaboratively with individuals and groups.
- Working Conditions:
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift patients and patient care equipment up to 35 pounds. Must be capable of pushing, pulling, and moving patients and equipment, as well as bending and kneeling.
- Visual Acuity: Required to have close visual acuity for tasks such as preparing and analyzing data, transcribing, and extensive reading.
- Auditory Acuity: Must possess sufficient hearing ability to identify auditory alarms in a noisy environment.
- Environmental Conditions: The role involves exposure to hazards associated with a hospital environment.
