Position Overview

Targeted Annual Compensation: $170,000.00

ROLE OBJECTIVE: The Plant Operations Supervisor is tasked with overseeing all operational aspects of the Brooklyn Navy Yard Cogeneration Plant (BNYCP). This role is crucial in ensuring the safety of personnel and equipment, optimizing productivity, and maintaining economic efficiency. The Supervisor will manage daily plant operations, implement the Operating Plan, and identify areas for improvement and development. Ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations is paramount. The Supervisor will guide operations personnel in the safe and reliable functioning of the plant, ensuring adherence to the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). Timely reporting of normal and emergent conditions affecting power production is essential. Continuous review and updates of Operating Procedures will be required, alongside ensuring that Operations Staff maintain current training and qualifications. Collaboration with the Maintenance team to prioritize workloads and assist in planning and executing outages and projects is also a key responsibility.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Guarantee the safe and reliable operation of the plant in line with established procedures.
  • Manage plant operations according to the daily energy and steam production schedule.
  • Implement corrective actions as necessary, following established protocols and best practices.
  • Verify timely completion of work orders.
  • Conduct regular inspections of the plant to ensure compliance with safety regulations and operational standards.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and resolving operational issues as they arise.
  • Oversee training and skill development programs for Operations personnel, ensuring adequate staffing for operational needs.
  • Mentor team members and foster a positive work environment.
  • Support the recruitment and selection of new personnel.
  • Facilitate regular safety meetings and address safety concerns in all group discussions.
  • Respond to safety incidents, documenting occurrences and recommending corrective actions.
  • Maintain up-to-date Operations Manuals and ensure compliance with operating policies.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, climb stairs and ladders, and lift up to 50 pounds. Personal protective equipment is required for certain tasks.
  • Position may require extended hours and varied shifts, including weekends and holidays, with on-call responsibilities as needed.
Qualifications

Education / Experience:
  • A technical undergraduate degree or equivalent experience is essential.
  • Extensive background in operations and maintenance of natural gas-fired combined cycle power plants is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures is required.
  • Knowledge of instrumentation, controls, electrical systems, and mechanical operations is highly desirable.
  • Experience managing plant outages with multiple contractors is advantageous.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills are essential.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong time management capabilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and CMMS/Maximo systems is required.
Certifications:
  • Valid driver's license is required.
