The primary function of this role is to deliver instructional support under the guidance of a certified educator, focusing on the execution of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with special needs, either within the classroom or in alternative settings.
Chattanooga High School Center for Creative Arts is a distinguished fine arts magnet institution that champions both academic and artistic excellence for students in grades six through twelve. Key Responsibilities
- Assist students with disabilities by preparing, adapting, and utilizing educational materials tailored to their individual needs; support the development and execution of IEPs; monitor and document students' progress across various developmental domains.
- Provide necessary physical support, including assistance with personal care tasks as specified in each student's IEP.
- Supervise and manage classroom activities during the short-term absence of the teacher.
- Collaborate with teachers to facilitate various class activities; prepare instructional resources for classroom engagement; assist with the integration of instructional technology.
- Collect and analyze data to assess student performance and skill development.
- Ensure a safe learning environment by adhering to established safety protocols.
- Perform clerical duties to support educational activities and administrative functions.
- Respond appropriately to student behavior and be open to training in non-violent behavioral intervention techniques.
- Model appropriate social and professional behaviors during community-based learning experiences.
- Accompany students on field trips that occur during school hours.
- Execute tasks requiring literacy, numeracy, and effective communication skills, while utilizing various tools and technologies to support educational compliance.
- Demonstrate basic sign language skills and communication facilitation as needed.
- Engage with various stakeholders, including supervisors, teachers, parents, and community members, to coordinate activities under the direction of educational leadership.
- Participate in staff meetings, IEP team discussions, and other required gatherings.
- Maintain a safe environment in assigned areas by following established protocols.
- Collaborate effectively with supervisors, colleagues, students, and other stakeholders.
- Demonstrate consistent attendance and punctuality.
- Uphold confidentiality and adhere to the ethical standards set forth by educational regulations.
- Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned, which may include physical support for students with special needs and the appropriate use of assistive technologies.
Education and Experience:
- A high school diploma or GED is required; proficiency in basic technology and clerical skills is essential; equivalent combinations of education and experience are acceptable. Candidates should possess knowledge and skills to support the PreK-12 general curriculum. Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: completion of 72 quarter hours or 48 semester hours; an Associate's degree or higher; or a passing score on the PRAXIS Parapro Exam. Experience working with students with disabilities is preferred.
- Ability to learn and apply diverse teaching strategies.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Capacity to collaborate effectively with students with varying disabilities.
Salary is determined based on a combination of relevant education and experience.
