This key role will be responsible for developing and overseeing database policies and procedures to ensure the integrity and availability of databases and their accompanying software.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement standards, processes, and procedures for database operations, ensuring consistency and efficiency.
  • Assess and develop long-term strategic goals for production databases in collaboration with data owners and department managers.
  • Lead the design and development of new databases, and assist with the installation and testing of new databases.
  • Develop and implement operations to ensure optimal performance, availability, and scalability of critical database environments.
  • Develop, test, and implement SQL program code and application code for use with databases.
  • Lead the troubleshooting of database performance or stability issues.
  • Identify sub-optimal database architecture, design, or operational practices and lead the execution of projects to address them.
  • Define, review, and implement database backup and recovery strategies.
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement security measures, indexes, access controls, constraints, triggers, and other database-related features to safeguard databases.
  • Monitor database operations and supporting infrastructure, and create monitoring standards and practices to ensure complete visibility.
  • Provide technical support to analysts and technical staff related to database design and administration, and troubleshoot complex database issues.
  • Work with application development staff to develop database architectures, coding standards, and quality assurance policies and procedures.
  • Design and implement redundant systems, policies, and procedures for disaster recovery and data archiving to ensure effective protection and integrity of data assets.
  • Perform database transaction and security audits.
  • Create required reports in response to business user needs.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a four-year accredited college or university majoring in information technology, computer science, or a closely related field.
  • Six years of experience in database development and/or administration.
  • Microsoft MCITP SQL Server certification may be substituted for one year of the required education or experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year of service with the District as a Database Administrator.
  • Civil service status as a Database Administrator.
