Overview: This position is part of the Lewis County Public Works, Solid Waste Division. The role involves overseeing the unloading of waste from various vehicles while ensuring compliance with safety standards and operational procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise the unloading of waste materials from public and commercial vehicles.
  • Conduct visual inspections of waste to identify and segregate unacceptable materials.
  • Load waste into transport trailers for proper disposal.
  • Provide customer service at transfer stations, addressing inquiries regarding waste management services.
  • Assist in the management of hazardous waste and support recycling initiatives.

Qualifications:

Applicants must possess a High School Diploma or GED equivalent and have a minimum of two years of relevant work experience, including:

  • Experience operating hydraulic excavators, backhoes, and forklifts.
  • At least one year of experience in cash handling and financial transactions.

Certifications Required:

  • Must obtain 24-hour HAZWOPER certification within one year.
  • Forklift certification within one year.
  • HVAC certification within one year.
  • First Aid and Flaggers certifications within six months.

Working Conditions:

The role is primarily based in a solid waste transfer station, with potential exposure to various weather conditions and heavy machinery. Physical demands include the ability to lift objects over 50 pounds and remain mobile in a dynamic environment.

Employees are expected to adhere to safety protocols and participate in ongoing training as required by the department.
