Position Overview:

The Commissioned Security Officer plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of all individuals on campus, including employees, students, and visitors. This position is responsible for safeguarding college property, which encompasses buildings, grounds, equipment, and other institutional assets.

The officer will be prepared to assist in emergency situations, taking appropriate actions within the legal boundaries of departmental authority. This role is essential, requiring flexibility to work various shifts and locations as needed. The officer will report directly to the Security Chief and other supervisory personnel.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Carry a firearm and respond effectively to various situations.
  2. Conduct regular patrols of campus grounds and facilities, ensuring all entry points are secure.
  3. Monitor parking areas, enforce regulations, and issue citations as necessary.
  4. Respond to both emergency and non-emergency calls, assisting with issues such as lost property or vandalism.
  5. Coordinate with emergency services when required.
  6. Identify and report any unusual conditions or safety hazards on campus.
  7. Document incidents and maintain accurate daily activity reports.
  8. Assist individuals in adhering to college regulations and conduct standards.
  9. Provide security coverage for various college events as assigned.
  10. Manage crowd control during events when necessary.
  11. Transport deposits to the bank as required.
  12. Offer courteous assistance to faculty, staff, students, and visitors.
  13. Adhere to all institutional policies and procedures.
  14. Maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information.
  15. Participate in drills and training to ensure preparedness for health or safety emergencies.

Additional Responsibilities:
  1. Implement procedures for securing and unlocking campus facilities.
  2. Provide security escorts when necessary.
  3. Oversee the campus video security system and learn to manage the locking system.
  4. Maintain certifications in First Aid, CPR, and AED as required.
  5. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  1. Must pass a criminal background check prior to employment and periodically thereafter.
  2. Must undergo drug/alcohol testing prior to employment and periodically thereafter.
  3. Must complete a psychological evaluation prior to employment.
  4. Possession of a Level III Commissioned Security Officer License from the State of Texas is required.
  5. Must be at least 21 years old.
  6. A High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) is required.
  7. At least one year of prior experience in security, law enforcement, corrections, or military service is necessary.
  8. Must maintain a valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
  9. Availability to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays is essential.
  10. This position is security-sensitive.
  11. Ability to carry a firearm and tactical equipment safely and effectively is required.
  12. Effective oral and written communication skills are necessary.
  13. Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills are essential.
  14. Integrity and the ability to foster a cohesive atmosphere within the Security Department are important.
  15. Physical ability to patrol on foot and in a vehicle, and to stand for extended periods is required.
  16. Ability to wear all assigned duty and tactical equipment is necessary.
