About the Role

Mercyhealth is seeking a skilled Mammography Technologist to join our team of dedicated healthcare professionals. As a key member of our radiology department, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the diagnosis of disease.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate radiologic equipment and perform mammography procedures to assist physicians in the diagnosis of disease.
  • Corroborate patients' clinical history with procedure, ensuring information is documented and available for use by the radiologist.
  • Prepare patients for procedures, providing instruction to obtain desired results, gain cooperation, and minimize anxiety.
  • Select and operate imaging equipment, image capture devices, and accessory devices to successfully perform procedures.
  • Position patients to best demonstrate anatomic areas of interest, respecting patient ability and comfort.
  • Immobilize patients as required for appropriate examination, explaining the need for breast compression during mammography.
  • Determine exposure factors.
  • Apply principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patients, self, and others.
  • Evaluate images for technical quality, ensuring proper identification is recorded.
  • Use radiology information systems, including PACS, to complete all required records and reports, and submit images for physician review and interpretation.
  • Assume responsibility for the provision of physical and psychological needs of patients during procedures.
  • Verify informed consent for interventional procedures as required.
  • Assist radiologists and physicians during procedures, perform breast specimen radiography as assigned.
  • Practice aseptic technique as necessary.
  • Perform radiographer duties, including preparing and administering contrast media, performing non-interpretive fluoroscopic procedures, and performing surgical and portable radiographic exams.
  • Initiate basic life support action when necessary.
  • Provide patient education.
  • Provide input for supply and equipment decisions, maintain control of inventory and supplies.
  • Assume responsibility for assigned areas, report equipment malfunction.
  • Provide practical instruction for students and partners.
  • Observe universal protocol, standard precautions, and appropriate patient identifiers.
  • Apply principles of patient safety during all aspects of radiographic and mammographic procedures, including assisting and transporting patients.
  • Prepare schedules, obtain and review previous mammograms, make follow-up calls, and perform other tasks as assigned.
  • Complete forms and maintain records, logs, and reports of work performed in accordance with MQSA.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited radiography program.
  • Radiographer experience preferred.
  • Mammographer experience preferred.
  • ARRT Radiography registration required.
  • ARRT Mammography certification required or must be obtained within two years of hire.
  • IEMA-DNS radiography accreditation required if working in Illinois.
  • WI-DSPS radiographer license required if working in Wisconsin.
  • Approved CPR or BLS certification required within 90 days.
Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
