Job Title: Speech Specialist

Join the Panama-Buena Vista Union School District as a Speech Specialist, where you will play a vital role in evaluating and treating school-aged children with verbal communications and cognitive disorders.

Job Summary:

The Speech Specialist will provide assessment, consultation, and in-service training to other caregivers and instructional support. This professional position requires specific training in speech and language therapy.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Diagnose and treat the communicative abilities of students in areas such as articulation/phonology, cognition, motor speech, dysphasia, voice, fluency, craniofacial anomalies, hearing, and child and adult language.
  2. Work with a multi-disciplinary team to develop individual education plans based on assessments.
  3. Develop short and long-range therapeutic goals and treatment programs to meet students' individual needs.
  4. Educate students and parents on behaviors and activities that can characterize communicative disorders.
  5. Integrate services with instructional technology and common core curriculum to help students achieve academic goals.
  6. Follow up with students who have been dismissed from special programs to evaluate academic and behavioral progress.
  7. Serve as a resource member on a student study team for one or more schools.
  8. Participate in multi-disciplinary staff conferences with school, county, and community professionals.
  9. Educate school administrators, teachers, and support staff on speech/language and hearing pathology services and appropriate interventions.
  10. Plan and facilitate parent and teacher conferences on verbal and cognitive speech/language and hearing matters.
  11. Participate in the development and/or selection of materials that enhance learning and communicative skills.
  12. Work and interact with peers in a professional manner that contributes to the District's academic achievement goals.
  13. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of new developments in the profession.
  14. Provide in-service demonstrations and assistance to other teachers and support staff on processes and techniques that reinforce speech and hearing therapies.
Requirements:
  1. Bachelor's degree from a regionally-accredited college or university in Speech-Language Pathology, Communicative Disorder, or a closely aligned field.
  2. Verification of application efforts to Commission-approved SLP Services Credential program.
  3. Ability to relate positively to children and instill in them a desire to improve.
  4. Ability to relate positively to parents, school personnel, and other lay and professional people.
  5. Ability to conduct oneself in a professional manner and demonstrate personality characteristics that enhance effectiveness in a school setting.
  6. Ability to communicate effectively and use appropriate, professional language skills in writing and speaking.
  7. Demonstrate a positive attitude and desire to improve professional knowledge and competence.
Benefits:

The District offers a competitive salary range of $84,176 - $92,408 with 5 incremental steps, 184 working days per year, eight (8) hours per day. The District currently contributes up to $19,793.00 towards family, dental, medical, and vision insurance plans, along with a life insurance plan for the employee.

Selection Procedure:

More than one interview may be required. Not every qualified candidate can expect to be interviewed for the opening. All requested information must be included to be considered for an interview.

As required by California State Law, should you be employed by the district, your fingerprints will be submitted to the Justice Department and the FBI for a background check. Processing fee will be at the applicant's expense.
