Compassionate Personal Care Assistant

The Personal Care Aide plays a vital role in delivering care and assistance to individuals residing in a mental health personal care facility. This position focuses on helping residents with their daily activities, ensuring their safety, and addressing their emotional and psychological well-being. The ideal candidate will possess a nurturing disposition, excellent communication abilities, and the capacity to thrive in a collaborative environment.
Key Duties- Support residents with daily living tasks (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility assistance.
- Provide companionship and emotional support, creating a nurturing and positive atmosphere.
- Observe and report any alterations in residents' physical or mental health to the relevant healthcare professionals.
- Assist in meal preparation, serving, and feeding residents as required.
- Administer medications as per prescribed schedules and maintain accurate documentation.
- Encourage residents to engage in recreational and therapeutic activities.
- Ensure a clean, safe, and organized environment by performing light housekeeping tasks.
- Adhere to care plans and collaborate with the healthcare team to deliver comprehensive care.
- Respect residents' rights and maintain confidentiality in all aspects of care.
- Engage in training and professional development to remain informed about best practices in mental health support.
- Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation support when necessary.
- Carry out additional responsibilities as directed by the supervisor or manager.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Certification as a Personal Care Aide or completion of a relevant training program.
- Experience in a mental health care environment is preferred.
- Familiarity with basic healthcare practices and principles.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.
- Compassionate, patient, and empathetic approach.
- Capability to manage stressful situations and provide crisis intervention support.
- Basic understanding of mental health conditions and suitable care strategies.
- Physical capability to perform job duties, including lifting and assisting residents.
- Work is conducted in a mental health personal care home setting.
- May involve prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, and lifting.
- Potential exposure to communicable diseases and challenging behaviors.
