We are seeking a skilled Licensed Practical Nurse to join our team at the State Farm Correctional Center. As a LPN, you will provide evidence-based nursing care to patients, administer medications, and provide first aid and basic life support as needed.
Key Responsibilities- Provide nursing care to patients, including administering medications and providing first aid and basic life support.
- Screen for sick call and maintain open lines of communication with security and treatment staff.
- Record all pertinent information into the medical record and interact with other departments as needed.
- Promote continued competence through education and certification with a focus on correctional nursing.
- Work hours, days, and locations as assigned, and be capable and available to provide coverage as needed to meet institutional needs.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Valid unrestricted Virginia Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) license issued by the board of nursing or a multi-state compact license.
- Working knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques of practical or general nursing care.
- Demonstrated ability to screen complaints of physical ailments and refer necessary cases to other medical professionals.
- Ability to maintain appropriate documentation, provide first aid, and carry out providers' orders in applying treatments.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions and to administer practical nursing care.
- Certified Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers with current certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) is required upon hire.
- Experience working in a Corrections or Law enforcement environment.
- Experience or related training in delivery of general nursing and emergency medical care.
This is a wage position limited to working no more than 1,500 hours per agency during the 12-month period of May - April 30, regardless of the hire date. The wage employment period resets on May 1 of the following year. All wage employees are limited to working no more than 29 hours per week on average over the 12-month period.
This wage position offers no state benefits.
