Job Title: Health Care Specialist

Chautauqua Opportunities is seeking a skilled Health Care Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Child Care Center, you will provide essential health care services to our children, ensuring their well-being and safety.

Job Summary:

The Health Care Specialist will be responsible for providing basic and emergency health care services, including health assessments, screenings, medication administration, first aid, and review of medical records. You will work closely with our Center Director, classroom staff, and community agency representatives to promote positive health outcomes and ensure compliance with regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain knowledge and ensure compliance with COI's Health services and Early Care and Education's procedures and protocols.
  • Provide oversight, review, and approval of child health records and health histories.
  • Develop and track individual health care plans, including special diets and medications.
  • Provide first aid for child injuries and illnesses.
  • Document children's incidents.
  • Work cooperatively with management, staff, and parents to promote positive health outcomes while ensuring compliance.
  • Complete children's screenings within 45 days of enrollment and initiate referrals for evaluations.
  • Facilitate community referrals, including access to a medical home for children and families.
  • Manage and maintain complete information on CAPSYS and mandated health files.
  • Assist in transitioning of children's records.
  • Administer medication in accordance with Federal and State regulations.
  • Perform assessments of children's health status.
  • Promote agency mission.
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with code of ethics.
  • Maintain consistent professional customer service.
  • Job performance incorporates integrated service delivery model while promoting self-sufficiency.
Requirements:
  • NYS Emergency Medical Technician - Basic (EMT-B) certification required; NYS Advanced Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic (AEMT-P) Certification preferred.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Knowledge of nutrition and wellness standards beneficial.
  • Ability to work as an effective team member/leader.
  • Strong computer, phone, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills including ability to prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks, documentation, maintaining files, monitoring, and charting.
Working Conditions:

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, maintain confidentiality, and provide excellent customer service. The Health Care Specialist will be required to lift up to 50 lbs and work flexible hours as needed.
