Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Certified Instrumentation Specialist to join our team at West Virginia University Hospital, Inc. As a key member of our Sterile Processing department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the highest standards of patient care and safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clean, decontaminate, assemble, and sterilize reusable patient care equipment, instrumentation, and supplies in accordance with departmental policy and procedure, Infection Control standards, and regulations.
  • Operate all sterilization and decontamination equipment safely and efficiently, requesting resourcing as needed.
  • Inspect, assemble, and sterilize all surgical and house instrumentation in accordance with departmental policy and procedure.
  • Restock accurately case carts with supplies, instrumentation, and equipment as indicated by the daily surgical schedule.
  • Inventory and maintain adequate levels of all instrumentation and sterile supplies utilized.
  • Report and record missing and/or damaged instrumentation/equipment, in accordance with set policy and procedure.
  • Provide exceptional customer service, answering requests via phone and/or in person in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Maintain work areas in a clean, neat, and orderly fashion on a daily basis.
  • Participate in cross-training for new surgical instrumentation and equipment.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must become registered within twelve (12) months initially from the date the Sterile Processing Tech receives their course materials to become certified.
  • Physically capable of prolonged periods of standing and walking.
  • Capable of lifting up to 60 pounds and pushing loaded carts weighing in excess of 200 pounds.
  • Possess visual/oral acuity, manual dexterity, and technical ability.
Working Environment

Able to work in a high-stress environment. Complete vision screening test for near and far vision. Must screen 20/40 or better or will be referred to the Eye Center.
