Ultrasound Technologist

Job Summary:
This position applies medical ultrasound to patients in accordance with a doctor's order, working within the scope of practice defined by the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography and American Society Radiologic Technologists. The technologist must be able to handle the movement, set-up, and operation of medical ultrasound equipment, as well as handle all patients according to their needs. This role takes direction from the Radiology Medical Director and understands patient assessment and treatment procedures as outlined by policy. The technologist provides patient assessment information to the Radiologist as needed and is trained in Basic Life Support. The role is responsible for documenting procedural information in the patient's medical record, including PACS. The technologist must align their behavior and communication skills with the organization's mission, values, and culture.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform high-quality ultrasound procedures under minimal supervision using diagnostic ultrasound imaging equipment.
- Document calibration procedures for individual imaging equipment.
- Coordinate, organize, plan, and make quick decisions on emergent cases, evaluating and acting to maintain efficiency and maximize productivity.
- Assist the Radiologist in performing invasive biopsy procedures using the Ultrasound system to pinpoint exact anatomical locations of diseased areas for specimen evaluation and diagnosis.
- Ensure accurate charging and submission of procedures for correct billing.
- Ensure the Ultrasound room is adequately supplied, checks equipment and computer status for readiness, and reports any problems that could impact workflow.
- Perform all tasks as listed, as well as any additional tasks deemed necessary or recommended by the associate's immediate supervisor or manager on duty.
- Demonstrate competence in performing assigned patient care responsibilities in a manner that meets the population-specific and developmental needs of patients served by the department.
- Adapt assigned patient assessment to accommodate the unique physical, psychosocial, cultural, age-specific, and other developmental needs of each patient served.
- Demonstrate adherence to the CORE values of Christus Health.
Requirements:
- Graduate of an accredited school of Ultrasound Technology or other accepted and approved equivalent required.
- Minimum 1-year scanning experience in Abdomen, OB/GYN, Vascular, and Breast Ultrasound preferred.
- ARDMS or ARRT/Sonography certification in Abdomen required within one year.
- LRST/ARRT Radiologic Technology License preferred.
- Certification in OB/GYN or Breast preferred.
- Current BLS (American Heart Association) required.
