Position Overview

The Senior Accountant engages in both straightforward and moderately complex analytical tasks, contributing to the preparation of financial statements and analytical reports, often collaborating in small teams. This position supports the Accounting leadership and senior accounting professionals during the month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring compliance with GAAP standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Reviews and/or prepares transactions for entry, posts entries upon approval, collects and evaluates data, conducts analysis, and prepares reports.
  • Verifies the accuracy of journal entries and accounting classifications assigned to various records, reporting any discrepancies to senior associates.
  • Assists in the preparation of reconciliations for general ledger accounts.
  • Contributes to the analysis of financial reports and records.
  • Prepares schedules with supporting documentation for external auditors.
  • Supports the preparation of financial and operational reports, including trial balances, adjustments, and closing entries.
  • Interprets and communicates financial reports and results to management.
  • Conducts or assists in the documentation and support of accounting projects of varying complexity.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or Accounting is required.
  • A Master's degree with a concentration in Accounting is preferred.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience is required.
  • Experience with reconciliation functions, posting journal entries, and month-end processing is essential.
  • Knowledge in the preparation of general ledgers, familiarity with FASB requirements, and GAAP is required.
  • Experience in the healthcare sector is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Workday Financial is preferred.
Skills
  • Mathematical Skills: Proficient in basic arithmetic operations and the ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages.
  • Language Skills: Capable of reading, analyzing, and interpreting business periodicals, professional journals, and technical procedures. Proficient in writing reports and business correspondence, with strong verbal communication skills.
  • Other Skills and Abilities: Proficient in English, with the ability to articulate and embrace the hospice philosophy.
Certifications:
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license is preferred.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment: The role necessitates the ability to perform essential functions effectively. Adaptations can be made for team members with disabilities. Regular standing, walking, and manual dexterity are fundamental, along with the ability to lift and move objects up to 25 pounds. Visual acuity requirements include close and distance vision, color and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
