About the Role

Pediatrix Medical Group is seeking a skilled Casting Technician to join our team. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for applying and removing casts, including complex casting and orthopedic splints and devices. Your expertise will be essential in ensuring the proper maintenance, record keeping, and ordering of tools, equipment, and inventory.

Responsibilities
  • Apply casts using a variety of materials, including plaster and synthetic casting materials, with minimal supervision.
  • Apply appropriate casts/splints per physician order, using the correct casting/splint material and positioning the body accordingly.
  • Shape casts to ensure maximum comfort and minimum unnecessary pressures.
  • Trim and remodel casts to ensure comfort and fit, using cast knives, cast cutters, and cast spreaders.
  • Perform documentation and patient education related to casting and splinting, as directed by physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, residents, or registered nurses.
  • Mold, fit, and trim synthetic or plastic splints to fit patients.
  • Customize splints and braces as necessary for patient use.
  • Perform serial casting for flexion contractures and diabetic ulcers.
  • Apply and adjust orthopedic devices, such as braces, splints, and compression stockings.
  • Obtain measurements from patients as necessary.
  • Prepare molds of patient body parts, ensuring proper alignment.
  • Position, align, and adjust orthopedic devices on the correct body part, ensuring a comfortable fit.
  • Adjust hinged orthopedic devices to physician specifications.
  • Modify or customize braces or splints for optimal patient fit.
  • Instruct patients on the use, adjustment, and care of devices.
  • Clean exam and procedure tables, work areas, and tools according to schedules.
  • Stock exam and procedure rooms according to schedules and as needed.
  • Inventory specialty items and initiate reorders as necessary.
  • Clean and maintain clinic specialty equipment according to hospital infection control standards and clinic procedures.
  • Report non-functioning or defective equipment to supervisors and submit repair requests.
  • Prepare and stock special procedure trays, such as suture trays and toenail trays, and follow reprocessing procedures.
  • File paperwork as required.
  • Maintain tools and equipment.
Qualifications

We are seeking a candidate with a high school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of three years of casting experience. Educational courses related to casting are preferred. Experience in the healthcare industry is essential.
