Overview:
Expected compensation for this role is $19.81/hour. Actual compensation will be determined by experience, skills, and internal equity.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Patient Financial Advisor is responsible for ensuring that each patient possesses a comprehensive and precise OSF medical record. This includes patient demographics, insurance coverage, responsible guarantor, and accurate registration in a manner that patients comprehend their services, financial obligations, and expectations both prior to and following service.

Financial education will be offered to patients to clarify their anticipated out-of-pocket expenses and provide assistance with payment options.

The Patient Financial Advisor is expected to be well-versed in payment alternatives, grants, programs, and various forms of assistance to inform and support patients regarding their financial choices.

This role involves identifying a patient's payer source, which includes obtaining authorization from the payer, determining if services require authorization, referral, or pre-determination, and verifying if the procedure is a covered benefit. The advisor should also assist patients with inquiries regarding existing bills or invoices.

Effective communication is essential, as the advisor must convey information clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, to peers, supervisors, payors, physicians, patients, and other departments.


Qualifications:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience:

An Associate's Degree coupled with one year of customer service or relations experience; or a High School Diploma with two years of experience in a call center, healthcare, or public health environment. Additional skills/knowledge include: Exceptional interpersonal and communication abilities.

Proficient computer skills, particularly with Microsoft software. Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with a keen attention to detail.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
​Education:
A Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or a healthcare-related field.
Experience:
Background in patient registration, patient accounts, patient finance, insurance benefits, financial assistance programs, public health, social services, or other community-based settings. Experience in medical billing, including interactions with insurance companies, third-party administrators, and collections, with a focus on customer communication. Advanced knowledge of CTP4, ICD 10, HCPCS, and modifiers. Familiarity with medical terminology. Licensure/Certifications: HFMA CRCR Certification.
