Job Summary

The Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist - Computed Tomography Specialist is responsible for performing routine to moderately complex radiographic examination procedures using diagnostic x-ray equipment. The ideal candidate will have experience in computed tomography and be able to work independently, prioritizing scheduled patients and accommodating emergency cases.

Key Responsibilities
  • Schedule exams to optimize scanner times and maintain flexibility for emergency cases
  • Confer with radiologists to determine requirements for non-standard exams
  • Determine technical factors, positioning, number, and thickness of scans to produce and satisfy requirements of CT scanning
  • Perform CT angiography, including run-offs and pulmonary embolus studies, using power injectors and reconstruction of images post-image acquisition
  • Perform CT biopsies utilizing surgical sterile techniques
  • Prepare contrast materials used in CT
  • Perform quality control on the CT scanner as required
  • Record contrast warmer temperature daily and check crash cart at the beginning of each shift
  • Perform reconstructions of CT studies when requested or as part of a standard procedure
  • Maintain records and files of exams performed on patients, including patient log registration and editing of patient exams in the computerized information system
  • Properly identify patient images and explain exams to competent patients, ensuring they understand what is to be done and any potential adverse reactions
  • Responsible for stocking and inventory of all CT supplies and related materials
  • Report equipment malfunctions in a timely manner to the supervisor and enter an electronic work order to Biomedical Engineering for repair
  • Perform irregular hour emergency scans on-call, requiring availability within 45 minutes of receipt of call
Requirements
  • United States Citizenship
  • English Proficiency
  • Certification in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT) (R)
  • Advanced ARRT certification for assignments that include computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), or Mammography (M) duties performed independently
  • Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from other accrediting agencies as recognized by the Department of Education (DOE)
  • At least one year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-8, directly related to the position being filled, demonstrating clinical competencies
