Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Certified Surgical Tech to join our team at Hendricks Regional Health. As a key member of our operating room team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the highest level of patient care and satisfaction.

Essential Responsibilities:

Fiscal:

  • Assist anesthesia, surgeons, and associates with procedural-related tasks, ensuring efficient use of resources and minimizing waste.
  • Monitor and maintain instrument and equipment for processing, adhering to AORN and AST standards.
  • Perform established procedures for cleaning, decontaminating, and sterilizing instruments and equipment.
  • Provide assistance in the order of priority and re-prioritize as designated by the director or designee.
  • Adjust your schedule to accommodate changes in department activity levels.
  • Use supplies judiciously, minimizing waste and optimizing resource allocation.

Quality:

  • Assist RNs in obtaining non-routine supplies for individualized client care, ensuring quality and minimizing delays.
  • Support client care by promptly responding to and reporting ongoing intermittent and unexpected changes in delegated aspects of care.
  • Facilitate planning and adjusting provisions of patient care per request of anesthesia, surgeons, and OR associates.
  • Consult and collaborate to revise preference cards, instrument sets, and supply pull sheets as technological advances influence changes in delegated aspects of care.
  • Accept and delegate tasks appropriately, promoting teamwork and collaboration.

Patient Satisfaction:

  • Collaborate with other healthcare providers regarding the plan of intraoperative care, including instrument and supply setup prior to cases.
  • Respond quickly and work under stress related to multiple requests for supplies and instruments.
  • Maintain a professional environment and keep noise to a minimum at all times.
  • Exemplify excellent guest relations to patients, visitors, physicians, and coworkers.
  • Collaborate as a member of the operative team to enhance patient flow with changes to daily procedure schedules.

Patient Safety:

  • Clean, decontaminate, and sterilize all instruments, metal goods, and equipment used for patient care.
  • Plan and prepare for surgical intervention based on individualized patient needs and respond to ongoing, intermittent, and unexpected changes in delegated aspects of care.
  • Adhere to HIPAA and follow social media policy, and adhere to standards of practice for instrument and supply sterility.
  • Verify the double-check system to ensure medications and supplies passed to the sterile field are accurate.
  • Maintain a just culture and report any breaks in sterile field and activities surrounding patient care.

Professional Development:

  • Maintain workable knowledge of anatomy and instruments/equipment.
  • Share knowledge and skills with colleagues and others, including orientation and cross-training.
  • Demonstrate leadership and be a resource for peers, precepts students, and new employees when needed.
  • Identify professional needs and collaborate with management for learning opportunities for self and the unit.
  • Participate in development and implementation of departmental goals and attend product practice change in-services.

Customer Service:

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with all customers, focusing on physicians, provider practices, anesthesia, and public.
  • Provide a professional and quiet patient environment.
  • Practice AIDET (Acknowledge, Identify, Duration, Explanation, Thank You).
  • Promote commitment to coworkers, view all staff as part of an equal team, and be approachable at all times.
  • Be flexible with assignments, staffing needs, and assigned shifts.
