We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Surgical Technologist, Sr. to join our team at UPMC - Pittsburgh Medical Center. As a key member of our surgical team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and effective conduct of invasive and non-invasive procedures.
Responsibilities- Assist surgeons and surgical assistants during procedures, passing instruments and supplies as needed.
- Prepare patients for surgery by washing, shaving, and ensuring aseptic incision sites.
- Coordinate day-to-day supervision of surgical technicians and serve as a lead on daily shifts to resolve any questions or issues.
- Teach new employees and students both skill and theoretical principles related to surgical procedures.
- Assist in the preparation, care, and disposal of specimens taken for laboratory analysis.
- Support cost containment in the use of materials and equipment.
- Collaborate with surgeons, specialty team members, and other departments to ensure excellent patient care.
- Identify process improvement opportunities and assist in implementation.
- Completion of a formal surgical technician program offered by a community or junior college, vocational school, university, hospital, or the military.
- 3 years of current Operating Room experience required.
- Advanced knowledge of at least 2 surgical specialists with 1 year experience in selected specialty desired.
- CPR certification based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
- Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal.
- Act 33 with renewal.
- Act 34 with renewal.
- Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal.
