Department Overview:

The Tactical Air Dominance Department (N151) is revolutionizing warfighter operations by expediting the deployment of advanced weapon systems through digital acquisition, sophisticated simulation and emulation, resilient communications, and autonomy experimentation.

Our initiatives support the United States Air Force Operational Imperatives, enabling the warfighter to effectively and efficiently execute current and emerging kill chains in highly contested environments.

Position Responsibilities:

The selected candidate will be tasked with:

  • Generating, breaking down, and reviewing system requirements.
  • Modeling system requirements, behaviors, and interfaces utilizing Digital Engineering processes and tools.
  • Supporting systems development, analysis, and testing.
  • Creating and assessing system designs and architectures.
  • Formulating technical solutions and effectively communicating these solutions in support of MITRE's defense sponsors.
  • Developing technical documentation and presentations to convey activities such as architecture designs, Analysis of Alternatives, informational presentations, and technical analyses.
  • Collaborating with engineers across MITRE's divisions to synchronize development efforts, leverage expertise from others on projects, and uphold common standards of product quality.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related discipline with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, or 3 years with a Master's degree, or a PhD with applicable experience.
  • Active DoD SECRET Security Clearance.
  • Proven experience applying systems engineering principles to facilitate evidence-based decision-making.
  • Dedication to continuous learning, innovation, and engineering excellence.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills.
  • Genuine interest in aircraft system design, integration, and early weapon systems engineering.
  • Experience with object-oriented programming languages (Java, C++, etc.), schema-based languages (JSON, XML, etc.), and/or scripting languages (Python).
  • Familiarity with system modeling and simulation tools such as MATLAB, Cameo, Rhapsody, AFSIM, etc.
  • Ability to effectively work and communicate within multi-disciplinary teams.
  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site presence.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering or a similar STEM field.
  • Active DoD TOP SECRET Security Clearance.
  • Demonstrated experience with systems engineering lifecycle activities (requirements, design, development, testing, deployment, sustainment) for DoD sponsors.
