The Nurse Specialist provides one-to-one healthcare services to designated students with special needs, as outlined in the student's Individualized Education Program (IEP) and healthcare plan.
Key Responsibilities- Provide 1:1 care to a medically complex student, utilizing program direction provided by a certified RN.
- Implement the healthcare plan for an individual student with special health needs, ensuring student safety at all times.
- Ride the bus with the student before and after school, providing professional nursing care and emergency first aid treatment as needed.
- Accurately administer medication, maintain documentation and care records, and monitor the effectiveness of medication.
- Assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) and hygiene care while at school, orienting building staff regarding the individual student's health needs.
- Work in cooperation with certificated and classified staff to promote a medically effective, friendly, and caring atmosphere for the student and parents.
- Communicate with licensed health providers, parents, and others in the district or community as directed, monitoring the school environment for safety and health concerns.
- Maintain knowledge of current laws and regulations pertaining to nursing, healthcare, and school/public health, fulfilling the standard of care needed for the student within the scope of duties approved by the Mead School District and Nursing License.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Current RN or LPN licensure with the appropriate State Board.
- Experience in nursing duties with children is preferred, with CPR and advanced First Aid Certification required.
- Knowledge of ventilator care and ability to work with students with a wide range of behaviors, emotional disabilities, and medical conditions.
- Ability to maintain health records and confidentiality of students, parents, and staff members, with excellent record-keeping ability and clerical skills.
- Must have excellent communication skills, be detail-oriented, and a team player, with the ability to respond to and handle emergency situations in a calm, professional, effective manner.

A person working in this position will exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally while carrying, pushing, and/or pulling to move objects, with the employee frequently required to stand, walk, sit, and perform significant fine finger dexterity.
Terms of Employment and SalaryAs outlined by and in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) of the Mead Support and Service Professionals and Policies and Procedures of Mead School District, a typical school year consists of 180 days plus 10 holidays, from September through June of each school year.
The salary range for the position is: Min $25.25 - Max $46.05, with salary placement at step 1 on the appropriate scale for the position unless otherwise noted within the contract.
Each employee shall accumulate twelve (12) days of sick leave per year, with a maximum of three (3) days of annual leave provided for all employees based on the employee's scheduled employment hours per day.
Employees anticipated to work more than 630 hours per year will be eligible for Benefits through the School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB), including Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, and Long-Term Disability, with positions anticipated to work 70 hours or more per month for at least 5 months over a 12-month period eligible for Retirement through the State Department of Retirement Services.
