Medical Laboratory Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Technician/Technologist to join our team at Thomas Jefferson University. As a Medical Laboratory Technician/Technologist, you will play a critical role in providing accurate test results for confirming clinical diagnoses and treatment therapies.
Key Responsibilities- Perform and monitor various medical laboratory analyses of patient specimens to provide accurate test results.
- Comply with regulatory requirements by following established procedures and protocols to maintain a safe laboratory environment and meet accreditation standards.
- Work effectively as a team member within the department and with other departments to provide quality service through communication, cooperation, and collaboration.
- Process specimens following established protocols for proper patient identification and labeling.
- Determine acceptability of specimens by performing visual inspections and recognizing abnormal/unusual results.
- Document unacceptable specimens according to appropriate policy and communicate specimen requirements to appropriate personnel.
- Report, document, and communicate critical values to appropriate personnel per hospital policy.
- Operate analytical equipment for medical laboratory tests and monitor, clean, calibrate, and maintain devices and instruments according to manufacturer specifications and relevant standards.
- Troubleshoot malfunctions and initiate corrective action, keeping accurate records of all equipment checks and maintenance actions performed.
- Adhere to established quality control policies and procedures to ensure the accuracy and validity of laboratory results.
- Recognize factors that affect measurements and take appropriate action according to protocol.
- Participate in Proficiency testing program and maintain clinical competency by annually fulfilling regulatory requirements.
- Participate in hospital/laboratory in-services for educational purposes and to comply with accrediting agency regulations.
- Associate's Degree required in a related field of Science, preferably from an accredited school of Medical Laboratory Technology.
- Prior training in a laboratory setting (student training accepted).
- ASCP or equivalent certification preferred.
- Covid Vaccination is a requirement for employment at Jefferson for employees working at Jefferson's clinical entities or at the University.
