The Manufacturing Process Specialist plays a crucial role in the production of laminates, thermoplastics, and various materials/products at Schneller.
Key Responsibilities:
- Enhance environmental, health, and safety measures.
- Optimize production equipment utilization.
- Drive continuous improvement in throughput and first-pass quality.
- Assist in the development and implementation of new product manufacturing processes.
- Oversee the scaling up of new processes, including the installation, upgrading, and maintenance of equipment.
- Refine Process Engineering Guidelines to ensure process reliability and reproducibility before transitioning to manufacturing.
Essential Duties:
- Embody Schneller values and demonstrate a commitment to quality products and processes.
- Provide daily production support through data collection and analysis for troubleshooting.
- Lead root cause analysis and implement permanent corrective actions.
- Identify and spearhead cycle time reduction initiatives.
- Collaborate with Engineering & Technology and Sales teams on new product development to ensure manufacturability that is both safe and cost-effective.
- Create process maps, FMEAs, control plans, and Standard Work Instructions for various operations.
- Work with Process Engineering, Maintenance, and Operations teams to select, install, upgrade, and maintain equipment to enhance safety, quality, and efficiency.
- Lead process improvement initiatives, including methodologies such as 5S/6S, MDI, and Six Sigma.
- Prepare and distribute detailed technical reports summarizing project outcomes and status updates.
- Conduct necessary performance testing for processes or products.
- Support the development and execution of inspection procedures in collaboration with the Quality team.
- Initiate First Article Inspections as needed to ensure timely process completion.
- Engage in travel to suppliers, equipment vendors, and customers as required (approximately 10%).
- Fulfill additional responsibilities as necessary to meet customer and business needs.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science degree in an Engineering discipline (Chemical, Materials, Polymer, Industrial, or Mechanical).
- 2-5 years of relevant experience in an industrial setting.
- 1-2 years of experience in controls, with a desire to further develop this skill set.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, and other MS Office applications.
- Effective problem-solving skills in a deadline-driven environment, utilizing tools such as 8D.
- Knowledge of and ability to apply Statistical Process Control (SPC) methods.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
- Willingness to spend significant time on the manufacturing floor interacting with equipment and operations teams.
- Availability to occasionally work outside of standard business hours, including weekends/evenings/nights, and to address critical issues remotely.
Desired Qualifications:
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles, standard work development, continuous improvement, and cost reduction strategies.
- 1-2 years of experience with Allen Bradley controls, including programming simple control loops and updating HMI interfaces.
- Demonstrated skills in prioritization, organization, and project management.
- Proven track record of success in a manufacturing environment.
