Civilian Detention Officer

The Madison County Government is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual to fill the role of Civilian Detention Officer. This position is responsible for maintaining security and order in the Detention facility, ensuring the safety and well-being of detainees, staff, and the public.
Key Responsibilities- Monitor intercom and radio terminals to maintain situational awareness
- Operate electronic keyboards to control detainee activities in cell blocks
- Log all activities occurring on designated floors
- Respond to requests and grievances submitted via electronic kiosk system
- Distribute razors to detainees
- Assist with settling verbal and physical disputes among inmates
- Supervise trustees and oversee duties performed according to Jail Rules and Security Regulations
- Knowledge of prescribed jail procedures and routines
- Ability to perform standardized tasks in maintaining security and order
- Practical knowledge of area law enforcement demands
- Ability to use all assigned department equipment and weapons
- Ability to operate non-emergency department vehicles
- Ability to maintain accurate records and logs
- Ability to effectively communicate with the public, other officials, and agencies
The incumbent performs duties both in an office environment and in the field, frequently exposed to normal hazards associated with law enforcement. No prolonged, extreme physical demands are associated with regular duties or assignments.
