Job Overview

INTRODUCTION

This role is situated within a network of radiology facilities and outpatient imaging centers. The primary responsibility of the MRI technologist is to conduct magnetic resonance imaging studies for outpatients.

The technologist plays a crucial role in coordinating patient care, adhering to established protocols, policies, and specific instructions. It is essential for the technologist to hold ARRT (MR) registration.

This position reports to the MRI Supervisor and/or the Senior Manager of Clinical Operations, working under the guidance of the radiologist, which may involve on-site or remote supervision.

II. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1) General Diagnostic Responsibilities (50%)

- Uphold professional care standards and maintain patient confidentiality.

- Implement policies and procedures effectively.

- Execute ordered procedures safely and efficiently, following all required protocols.

- Assess patients' physical and psychosocial conditions, prioritize needs, and respond appropriately.

- Document pertinent observations and reactions to care provided.

- Administer contrast agents to designated patients.

- Assist with specific tests and procedures as necessary.

- Contribute to the economical use of supplies.

- Ensure equipment is maintained and available for use.

- Collaborate with colleagues and physicians in patient care.

- Foster open communication and utilize teaching opportunities with patients and their families.

- Implement emergency measures when necessary.

- Maintain a clean and safe environment for patients and staff.

- Work cooperatively with team members to achieve departmental goals.

2) Patient Care Activities (35%)

- Gather initial patient history and conduct assessments.

- Complete and document history sheets accurately.

- Engage with patients to ensure a positive experience.

- Perform assessments that may include vital signs and relevant medical history.

- Continuously observe and assess patients throughout their visit.

- Provide accurate information regarding patient history to the radiologist.

3) Safety and Infection Control (10%)

- Adhere to safety and infection control policies.

- Report unsafe equipment and ensure follow-up actions.

- Plan for safety and infection control in patient assessments.

4) Additional Duties (5%)

- Utilize growth and development principles to assess and meet patient needs.

- Maintain confidentiality of all patient and facility-related information.

- Perform other assigned duties as needed.

III. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

- Graduate from an accredited Radiologic Technology program or equivalent experience with ARRT registration.

- Previous experience in a busy healthcare setting is preferred.

IV. CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE

- AHA BLS certification is required or must be obtained within the first 90 days of employment.

- Registered as a Radiologic Technologist with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (RT(R)(ARRT)) at the time of hire.

- Registration in MRI with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (RT(R)(MR)(ARRT)) is preferred upon hire.

V. DESIRED SKILLS

- Basic patient care skills, including first aid and BLS.

- Excellent technical skills in MRI are essential.

- Ability to work independently and make informed decisions based on patient conditions.

- Flexibility, dependability, and professionalism are required.

VI. WORKING CONDITIONS

- Must be able to read printed material without strain and hear conversational voices.

- May be exposed to infections and contagious diseases.

- Frequent standing and walking are required, along with lifting and transferring patients.

VII. SUPERVISION

- Supervised by the MRI Supervisor and/or Senior Manager of Clinical Operations.

- The technologist functions with oversight from radiologists, requiring considerable independent work.
