Key Responsibilities
  • Performing Maintenance: Ensure the functionality of machinery, vehicles, and mechanical systems through regular preventive maintenance and repairs on engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machinery.
  • Repair Planning: Plan and execute repair tasks while utilizing blueprints, diagrams, sketches, operational manuals, and manufacturer’s guidelines.
  • Problem Diagnosis: Identify issues by observing mechanical devices in operation, listening for irregularities, and employing precision measuring and testing tools.
  • Component Removal: Dismantle devices to remove defective parts using hoists, cranes, and hand tools while assessing the condition of parts.
  • Measurement and Inventory: Use various measuring instruments to determine changes in dimensions and maintain equipment inventories by monitoring stock levels.
  • Order Management: Anticipate necessary equipment and supplies, place orders, and confirm receipt of items.
  • Reporting: Prepare mechanical maintenance reports by gathering, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends.
  • Continuous Learning: Enhance technical knowledge through training sessions, workshops, and reviewing technical literature.
  • Documentation: Record and communicate actions taken, irregularities encountered, and ongoing requirements.
  • Workplace Safety: Maintain a safe and organized work environment by adhering to established procedures and regulations.
  • Machine Setup: Set up machinery as required.

Qualifications

To excel in this role, a Maintenance Technician should possess:

  • Fundamental knowledge of machinery, engineering principles, hydraulic, electronic, and electrical systems.
  • Experience with hand and power tools.
  • Familiarity with welding techniques, including acetylene torch use, arc welding, brazing, and soldering.
  • Ability to interpret technical manuals and schematics.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Physical endurance and dexterity.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management abilities.
  • Sound judgment and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Capacity to follow instructions, show initiative, and work independently.
  • Completion of a formal training program at a postsecondary institution is advantageous.
  • Relevant work experience is highly beneficial.
