This role offers an exceptional opportunity to leverage your expertise in economics journalism, finance, or related fields to deliver fast-paced, accurate coverage of Canadian economic indicators. As a Data Editor, you will be responsible for crafting engaging news stories, leveraging new technologies, and collaborating with fellow reporters, data editors, and economists to shape our regional coverage.

Key Responsibilities:

• Leverage emerging technologies to provide timely, high-quality coverage of key economic indicators.
• Edit news stories for accuracy, clarity, and style, ensuring seamless integration into our workflow.
• Develop innovative solutions to enhance existing workflows, streamlining the processing and editing of data-focused stories.
• Contribute to generating story ideas within the Ottawa bureau and broader team, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing.
• Research and implement diverse methods for extracting insights and visual assets from publicly available reports and internal Bloomberg data, delivering smarter, faster, and more accurate reporting materials.
• Rely on the expertise of colleagues to identify gaps in coverage and shape ongoing efforts in the region.

Salary Estimate: $90,000 - $120,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications. This compensation package reflects the importance of this role in driving our organization's mission forward.

Requirements:

• Background in economics journalism, finance, or a related field.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Fluency in spoken and written English.
• A desire to learn and challenge the status quo.
• Experience in writing/editing concise headlines and fast-paced news stories.
• Ability to multitask in a dynamic news environment.
• Working knowledge of Excel VBA or Python for web scraping and data science.
• Working knowledge of the Bloomberg terminal preferred.
