Job Summary:
Kirby Corporation is seeking a highly skilled Shore Tankerman to join our team. As a Shore Tankerman, you will be responsible for preparing barges for loading and discharging, communicating with dock personnel, and ensuring the safe transfer of oil, refined, and petrochemical cargoes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare barges for loading and discharging
- Communicate with dock personnel to ensure safe transfer of cargoes
- Walk 2-3 miles per day to check barge conditions and rigging
- Step 2ft vertical and 2ft horizontal to access dock from barge or boat
- Reach fully throughout normal range of motion to throw and catch lines
- Climb 90-degree vertical ladder 25-30 ft to access barges
- Lift 60-75 pounds and carry it approximately 500 ft
- Use firefighting/spill containment equipment and communicate with dock personnel
Requirements:
- Valid and current merchant mariners document with Tankerman endorsement
- Current and valid drivers license
- Pass company-approved test and complete Kirby Corporation's training school for Tankermen
- Pass certification requirements of 46 CFR Part 197 Subpart C Benzene
- Satisfy all United States Coast Guard Chemical Drug Testing Programs for Vessel Personnel
Working Conditions:
The Shore Tankerman will work a rotating 6 days on, and 3 days off schedule. The job requires the ability to endure harsh environments, including extreme temperatures, rain, ice, sleet, wind, wave action, and long hours during transfers.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
The Shore Tankerman must be able to perform all duties while wearing protective equipment and meet the physical and mental requirements necessary to safely undertake the essential functions of this position.
