The role of the Exceptional Needs Educator involves providing tailored educational support to students with diverse learning requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver a foundational educational program for qualified students in alignment with state educational standards.
- Collaborate with general education teachers to interpret the strengths and challenges of students, facilitating their integration into mainstream classes.
- Engage regularly with parents and educational professionals to discuss the academic, social, and personal challenges faced by students.
- Support colleagues in addressing the unique psychological or behavioral issues of students with special needs.
- Assist in the assessment, evaluation, and placement of students in the Special Education program.
- Guide students in understanding their abilities and setting realistic educational and career objectives.
- Provide counseling to individuals and groups regarding educational, career, and personal matters.
- Encourage students with limited attention spans to remain engaged in their learning.
- Participate in ongoing professional development focused on the psychology of students with disabilities and effective teaching strategies.
- Maintain accurate attendance and other relevant records for state reporting purposes.
- Ensure that Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for all resource students are current and adjusted as needed by the IEP Team.
- Actively engage in S-Team and IEP Team meetings.
- Comply with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations regarding Special Education.
- Carry out additional responsibilities as assigned by school leadership.
