Job Description

**Job Summary:**

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Veterinary Assistant to join our team at Art City Vets. As a Veterinary Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional care to our patients and their owners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with restraining patients for treatments, procedures, and radiographs.
  • Prepare cages for patients being dropped off for procedures or daytime hospitalization as needed, and conduct patient intake.
  • Assist with admitting patients being dropped off for procedures as needed.
  • Communicate with all members of the staff, including:
    • Updating patient status changes to the technician and/or veterinarian.
    • Participating in patient rounds with the technician.
    • Assisting with procedures in all departments.
  • Report inventory needs to the appropriate team member.
  • Perform various cleaning tasks around the hospital, including:
    • Cleaning cages and hospital areas, bathrooms, mopping, feeding, and sterilizing instruments.
    • Cleaning areas between patients.
    • Cleaning and walking patients.
    • Restocking and maintaining the hospital clean and clutter-free.
  • Administer medications by oral route.
  • Recognize pain and notify the Doctor or Technician.
  • Ability to assist with CPR.
  • Pharmacology of common drugs.
  • Basic knowledge of diseases and surgical procedures.
  • Perform various administrative tasks, including:
    • Computer input into patient files.
    • Providing aseptic techniques to the workplace.
    • Filling prescriptions (Assistant level II).
    • Running basic in-house blood tests.
    • Preparing samples to be sent to the lab.
    • Preparing requested diets for in-house patients as needed.
    • Recording diet intake and U/BM/V/D on treatment sheets.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • High school or equivalent (Required).
  • Minimum 1+ year working in a veterinary setting (Preferred).
