Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Veterinary Assistant to join our team at American Veterinary Group. As a Veterinary Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and client service in a fast-paced, multi-doctor animal hospital.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist Veterinarians in the care of animals, including restraining animals when necessary, stocking examination and surgery rooms with supplies, and sterilizing tools.
  • Communicate with clients (pet owners) and update patient files.
  • Provide animal care by determining animal requirements, conducting examinations and diagnostic procedures, and assisting during operations.
  • Maintain supplies and equipment, and maintain records.
  • Determine animal requirements by conducting examinations and interviews, and complete laboratory tests and studies and diagnostic imaging.
  • Take vital signs and collect samples, administer medications, drugs, and vaccines, and bandage and wrap wounds.
  • Perform hydrotherapy and physical and inhalation therapies, and support animal examinations by assembling required supplies and instruments.
  • Explain animal status to owners, prepare surgery table instruments, and complete local/regional anesthesia.
  • Place catheters and obtain blood gases as needed, maintain sterile conditions, and obtain and verify medications.
  • Clean animal cages and equipment, and maintain a safe, secure, healthy, and humane environment.
Requirements
  • 1 year of experience as a Veterinary Assistant/Technician required.
  • Must be able to lift 40 lbs.
  • Excellent communication skills, a sense of urgency, and working harmoniously with team mates is required.
