Job Title: Electronics Specialist

South Bend International Airport is seeking a skilled Electronics Specialist to join our team. As an Electronics Specialist, you will be responsible for performing electrical work, including installing, maintaining, and repairing low voltage electrical wiring systems, fiber optics, lighting, access control systems, and closed-circuit television systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems and components, including wiring, cable pulls, lighting, and access control systems.
  • Perform diagnostics using electronic diagnostic tools and industry best practices to determine the cause of electrical problems and identify needed materials and equipment.
  • Research internet for parts, software update availability, and repair techniques in relation to job duties.
  • Input information into computer databases.
  • Make schematic diagrams of work completed to provide a record of installations.
  • Direct work of any assistants required in the performance of electrical tasks.
  • Inspect and monitor work performed by others (ex. contractors) for the airport and tenants (as appropriate) to ensure proper installation, maintenance, repairs, etc.
  • Report orally and in writing, as needed, to supervisor regarding work completed and needed.
  • Assist Airfield Electrical Specialist with preventative maintenance on airfield electrical lighting systems.
  • Drive equipment on ramps, taxiways, aircraft parking areas, and safety areas. Must communicate and follow radio directions from the air traffic control tower.
  • Participate in Airport sponsored special events.
  • Under stressful circumstances, assist Airport staff during emergencies involving aircraft or vehicle accidents or incidents and inclement or hazardous weather preparation, event, and recovery.
  • Perform snow removal operations to include salting, sanding, shoveling, brooming, plowing and the application of de-ice and anti-icing products.
Requirements:
  • Three (3) years of experience in a combination of trouble shooting and repair of motor controls, fiber optics, low voltage electrical systems, lighting, access control systems, telephony, close circuit television (CCTV) systems, or associated electrical equipment.
  • Experience with electronics.
  • Experience with fiber optics.
  • Experience with networking (preferred, not required).
  • Experience with electrical programming (preferred, not required).
  • Experience with software updates and hardware installation (preferred, not required).
  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent education.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid United States, state issued, driver's license.
  • Must complete and pass a comprehensive background and Criminal History Records check and be able to obtain security and access credentials.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screening.
  • Must be able to obtain Airfield "Movement Area" driving certification for controlled access to all surfaces (runways, taxiways, aprons, etc.) within six (6) months of employment. Training to be provided.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of the electrical/electronics trade.
  • Knowledge of FCC regulations and management license requirements to maintain radio frequency use.
  • Knowledge of methods, tools and materials in the repair and maintenance of electrical/electronic systems.
  • Knowledge of methods, tools, and materials needed in the repair and maintenance of UHF and VHF systems.
  • Must be capable of performing work within local and national electrical codes and TSA regulations regarding airport systems.
  • Knowledge of principles and maintenance of secure access control systems and associated components from installation to programming.
  • Knowledge of methods, tools, and materials needed in the installation and maintenance of closed-circuit camera systems.
  • Knowledge of safety precautions and practices common to electrical work.
  • Must be capable of working on highly technical aviation related operating equipment with the highest degree of safety.
  • Ability to supervise the work activities of individuals that may be providing on-site assistance.
  • Ability to read and follow electrical diagrams.
  • Ability to record and document work performed and/or installed or modified.
  • Ability to operate and perform work on aerial lifts to a height of 50 feet.
