Job Summary:

The Central Sterile Processing Technician will work under the supervision of the Sterile Processing Manager to assemble case carts containing consumable supplies and instrumentation. Post-operative instruments will be cleaned, decontaminated, assembled, sterilized, and stored until ready to be issued. Consumables will be inventoried, stocked, and issued as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

• Consistently supports the hospital's standards, in line with the Mission, Vision, and values of St. Joseph Medical Center.

• Follows guidelines related to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), designed to prevent or detect unauthorized disclosure of Protected Health Information (PHI).

• Promotes a culture of safety for patients and associates through proper identification and reporting.

• Ensures that all procedures are performed in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Requirements:

• One year of experience working with surgical supplies and instruments is preferred.

• Must be registered as a Central Service Technician (RCST), Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST), or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CBSPD) within one year of employment.

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Skills:

• Ability to read and write information communicated via a case cart requisition or count sheet.

• Ability to follow verbal orders received on the telephone.

• Analytical skills are necessary to accurately fill surgical case carts and assemble surgical instrument sets.

• Ability to perform basic computer functions.

• Ability to stand and walk approximately eighty percent of the shift.

• Ability to work with blood and body substances.
