Responsibilities:
  • Perform comprehensive and problem-focused history and physical exams
  • Interpret and correlate laboratory and diagnostic procedures
  • Formulate a treatment plan for Orthopedic problems within scope of practice
  • Implement therapeutic intervention for specific conditions when appropriate
  • Exercise judgment on problems requiring consultation, referral, or evaluation by the supervising Orthopedic surgeon or other healthcare professionals
  • Order, collect, and perform appropriate laboratory or diagnostic procedures and studies
  • Perform procedures such as digital blocks, regional anesthesia, and minor outpatient surgical procedures
  • Assist in surgery, including first assist, deep and superficial tissue closures, and application of appliances
  • Conduct hospital rounds, write orders, and assist the Orthopedic surgeon
  • Evaluate and clarify clinical conditions, formulate and implement a treatment or therapeutic plan for hospitalized patients
  • Dictate discharge summaries, histories, and physicals
  • Order, prescribe, dispense, and administer medication, orthosis, orthotics, braces, and other orthopedic devices as may be allowed by state legislation
  • Evaluate, screen, and counsel patients on health maintenance and promote utilization of community resources
  • Design, conduct, and/or participate in research studies, manage databases, and perform quality assurance
Requirements:
  • Proficiency with electronic health records for documentation, assessment, and care management
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with patients, family members, and the healthcare team
  • Ability to work independently and perform effectively in stressful and/or emergent situations
  • Demonstrates initiative and motivation
  • Excellent customer service orientation skills necessary to deal effectively with various levels of Hospital personnel, outside customers, and community groups
  • Understanding of anatomy, diagnosis, treatment options, procedures, methods, and equipment
  • Ability to complete clinical and surgical responsibilities in a timely fashion
  • Analytical ability to monitor data, develop treatment plans, and prescribe medication
  • Exercises good judgment, demonstrates effective critical thinking skills
  • Flexible, able to prioritize and address multiple responsibilities concurrently
  • Works effectively under stress and frequently changing job requirements/situations
  • Maintains regular, consistent, and punctual attendance at the assigned job location
Physical/Mental/Environmental Requirements:
  • Able to stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, and stretch frequently
  • Possess physical agility and adequate reaction time to respond quickly and appropriately to unexpected patient care needs
  • Needs adequate hearing and visual acuity, including adequate color vision
  • Requires fine motor skills, adequate eye-hand coordination, and ability to grasp and handle objects
  • Able to use proper body mechanics to assist patients in ambulating, transferring in and out of bed, chair, or wheelchair
  • May be required to lift up to 75 pounds
  • Must use standard precautions due to threat of exposure to blood and bodily fluids
  • Needs ability to communicate effectively through reading, writing, and speaking in person or on telephone
