Nuclear Medicine Technologist Job Description

As a Nuclear Medicine Technologist, you will play a critical role in performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures using nuclear medicine instruments and imaging equipment. Your responsibilities will include preparing and positioning patients for scanning, administering radioactive drugs, and operating PET/CT cameras.

You will also be responsible for collecting, preparing, and analyzing biologic specimens, as well as preparing data for interpretation. Additionally, you will perform radiation safety and quality control procedures on all Nuclear Medicine equipment, ensuring optimal performance and minimal radiation exposure to patients and staff.

Other key responsibilities include performing high-quality dynamic, static SPECT, and PET/CT imaging procedures, utilizing patient population-specific standards to obtain diagnostic patient information for referring physicians. You will also perform various radiopharmacy duties, including receipt, preparation, administration, and storage of radionuclides and radiopharmaceuticals, ensuring safety and integrity of the agents used.

As a Nuclear Medicine Technologist, you will be expected to demonstrate commitment to co-workers, department, and Medical Center through general standards of professional conduct, facilitating efficient and smooth operation of the department. You will also perform various general support functions, ensuring efficient utilization of time, and provide quality and compassionate patient care to ensure patient cooperation, safety, and satisfaction.

Finally, you will participate in various teaching and/or learning opportunities to further your own personal knowledge and assist in expanding the knowledge of others.

Key Requirements:

  • High School Graduate or Equivalent
  • Completion of an accredited Nuclear Medicine Technologist program
  • Registered Radiologic Technologist in Nuclear Medicine through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or CNMT certification through the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification

Physical Demands:

  • Standing for prolonged periods
  • Frequently bending/stooping, reaching (overhead, extensive, and repetitive)
  • Repetitive motion: computer keyboard
  • Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to write legibly
  • Ability to lift/push/pull lbs
