Position Overview:

The Vascular Interventional Radiologic Technologist is a skilled healthcare professional dedicated to delivering exceptional patient care within the Heart & Vascular Institute. This role involves working with patients who require advanced invasive cardiology or radiology procedures, ensuring their safety and comfort throughout the process.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer contrast agents as directed by the physician, ensuring patient safety by monitoring for any allergic reactions.
  • Operate under the guidance of a physicist or dosimetrist, performing essential duties with precision.
  • Maintain inventory and manage supplies effectively to support procedural needs.
  • Verify patient identity and ensure accurate charting of diagnoses and treatment plans.
  • Gather and compile relevant clinical data to assist in patient assessments.
  • Provide training and support to new staff members as required.
  • Maintain thorough and accurate documentation of all procedures and patient interactions.
  • Communicate clearly with patients about their procedures, ensuring they feel comfortable and informed.
  • Coordinate with nursing staff regarding medication dosages and procedural requirements.
  • Be available for on-call duties and flexible shifts to meet departmental demands.
  • Execute all core responsibilities of a Radiologic Technologist with competence.

Department-Specific Duties:

  • Ensure a sterile environment is maintained during all procedures.
  • Administer and manage contrast materials and treatments as necessary.
  • Conduct patient allergy assessments prior to procedures.
  • Prepare and organize supplies for various procedures.
  • Fulfill late shift responsibilities as assigned.
  • Perform skin suturing and demonstrate basic ECG interpretation skills.
  • Troubleshoot electrophysiology equipment effectively.
  • Operate pacing stimulators during ablation and electrophysiology studies.

Qualifications:

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Strong ability to absorb and retain information related to patient care and procedural protocols.
  • Effective communication skills and attention to detail in completing tasks.
  • Exhibit compassion and empathy in patient interactions.
  • Demonstrated manual dexterity for handling delicate instruments.
  • Experience in peripheral vascular procedures.
  • Proficiency in managing venous central lines and performing tube changes.
  • Experience in embolization procedures (arterial and venous).
  • Familiarity with venous thrombectomy techniques.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • Prior experience in a procedural radiologic technology setting.
  • Experience in neuro-related procedures.

Education Requirements:

  • Associate's Degree in a relevant field or
  • Certification in Radiologic Technology.

Certifications & Licensure:

  • BLS Certification (American Heart Association).
  • ACLS Certification (American Heart Association).
  • IEMA Radiography License for Illinois.
  • ARRT Radiography Certification.
