About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Surgical Tech Intern to join our team at Advocate Aurora Health. As a Surgical Tech Intern, you will play a vital role in providing support to our surgical team and ensuring the smooth operation of our operating rooms.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with surgical cases in all specialty areas, including orthopedic, neurosurgery, and general surgery.
  • Provide support to the surgical team, including preparing and draping the surgical area, providing a sterile field, and passing instruments and supplies.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment in the operating room, including setting up and breaking down equipment and supplies.
  • Transport patients and equipment as needed, using proper technique and safety protocols.
  • Perform various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique.
Requirements
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited or approved program in Surgical Technology.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
Working Conditions

This role requires working in a fast-paced environment with frequent exposure to mechanical, electrical, chemical, radiation, blood, and body fluids. The ability to lift up to 50 pounds from floor to waist, lift up to 20 pounds over the head, and carry up to 40 pounds a reasonable distance is required. The ability to push/pull with 30 pounds of force, perform a sliding transfer of 150 pounds with a second person present, and use foot pedals on carts or machines is also required.
