About Our Independent Living Services Program:

  • This program supports adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities in their homes and communities, focusing on enhancing or maintaining their independence. Community Support Specialists meet with 1-3 individuals daily, providing personalized skills training tailored to their unique goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist participants in their residences with essential tasks such as budgeting, meal preparation, personal hygiene, and daily living activities.
  • Facilitate opportunities for participants to enhance their social and communication skills while practicing self-regulation and coping strategies.
  • Deliver hands-on training, monitor, and evaluate participants' household tasks, supporting their ongoing development.
  • Advocate for participants' inclusion in the community, empowering them to assert their rights.
  • Utilize BuildAbility's digital platform to document individual progress and performance.

Work Schedule:

  • Part-time (15-20 hours) with potential for increased hours.
  • Monday to Friday.
  • Mornings and afternoons.
  • Assigned hours may vary weekly based on availability.

Compensation Details:

  • Starting at $21.00/hour (based on experience and qualifications).

Qualifications:

  • Required: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage positively with individuals with disabilities, their families, employers, and others.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Successful completion of a DOJ Live Scan fingerprinting background check.
  • Valid California Driver's License, automobile insurance, and reliable transportation.
  • Willingness to travel up to 75%.
  • Proof of full vaccination or a request for accommodation based on medical conditions or deeply held religious beliefs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Fluency in Spanish.
  • Previous experience supporting individuals with disabilities is a plus. If you lack experience, we offer on-the-job training. Many of our best staff started without prior experience.
