About the Role

Amergis is seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as a School Support Assistant. This role is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting students with diverse needs and making a positive impact in their educational journey.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide instructional support to students with varying abilities, including those with special needs, under the supervision of the special education department and/or supervising designee.
  • Assist students with personal, physical mobility, and therapeutic care needs, as established by a rehabilitation health practitioner, social worker, or other healthcare professional.
  • Follow through with IEP objectives, including math, reading, speech, independent skills, and managing behavioral deficits and excesses, one-on-one or as a general classroom aide.
  • Facilitate teacher-directed learning activities, including lesson plans, worksheets, reinforcement systems, small groups, social games, and work assistance.
  • Communicate pertinent information to teachers and adhere to confidentiality requirements regarding all matters pertaining to students, parents, and classroom activities.
  • Assist with activities of prescribed programs, including those written by related service personnel, such as PT, OT, and SLP.
  • Assist students in the development of independent skills through self-care activities, such as toileting, clothing routines, feeding, and personal hygiene.
  • May be asked to assist in behavior management techniques at the direction of the teacher and/or other school professional.
  • Assist with transfers and ambulation.
Requirements
  • Comply with all relevant professional standards of practice.
  • Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable.
  • Current CPR certification if applicable.
  • TB questionnaire, PPD, or chest x-ray if applicable.
  • Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation).
  • Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site.
  • Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.
  • Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required.
  • Computer proficiency required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
