Position Summary:
The Turbomachinery Technician III plays a critical role in the assembly and testing of custom and low-volume products across multiple industries. As an integral part of the team, the technician will oversee all aspects of a product, from component-level assembly and test to shaft balance, final assembly, and test support. The technician will work closely with engineers and test engineers to improve designs and processes while delivering mission-critical hardware.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure assembly and testing of products meet quality requirements and specifications.
- Work on cryogenic pumps, single-ended pumps, fans, and Welco products.
- Perform simple balance, hydrostatic pressure tests, and interference fits.
- Review and understand Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID).
- Review the work router, pull necessary tools, materials, and documents, and read and follow work instructions and drawings.
- Evaluate parts for cleanliness and clean as necessary.
- Inspect parts for nonconformities, note findings, and generate a Primary Material Review (PMR) for resolution.
- Assemble parts to the required level for testing, build test loops, and certify with engineering and the Lead Technician.
- Aide in testing, note results, and identify failure modes.
- Work with mentors to troubleshoot issues, perform necessary changes, and retest.
- Package products, ensure quality, and route to the next step.
- Sign the router, note time required, and complete weekly times.
- Ensure inspection gauging is calibrated and not overdue for calibration.
- Perform long shaft balance, overhung balance, hydrostatic tests, and gauge calibration.
- Collaborate with departments to ensure effective information and data transfer.
- Identify daily safety, quality, delivery, and cost issues and report to management.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent education certification.
- Minimum ten years of electro-mechanical technical experience in manufacturing, engineering, or research and development.
- Facilities and equipment maintenance exposure.
Desired Qualifications:
- Completion of a two-year technical degree from an accredited school in engineering technology, electronics, or a similar field.
- Experience in high/low voltage, electronics, plumbing, PLCs, HVAC, instrumentation, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
ITAR Requirements:
To conform to U.S. Government commercial space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), applicants for employment at Barber-Nichols must be a U.S. citizen or national, lawfully admitted for permanent residence into the U.S., or lawfully admitted as a refugee or granted asylum under 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a)(3). Security clearance is not required for this position.

Compensation and Benefits:
The hourly range for this role is $32/hr. - $40/hr. This range represents the anticipated minimum and maximum base + bonus for this position based on a good faith and reasonable estimate. The final compensation for this position will be set based on the applicant's qualifications (education, training, and/or experience related to this role), and therefore, may fall outside the range shown, depending on the circumstances.
