The Lead Performance Engineer for Machine Dynamics, Simulation, and Application is a highly esteemed position within our technical domain. This role emphasizes machine dynamics and control systems for the Large Mining Truck product segment. You will engage with various machine platforms, including diesel mechanical and diesel electric systems, focusing on both legacy and future electrified products. As a consultant and technical authority, you will contribute significantly to Caterpillar's foundational technologies, influencing vehicle designs, product lines, and process systems. Mastery of engineering principles is essential, as you will be expected to guide projects and initiatives to successful completion.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive the advancement of innovative Virtual Product Development (VPD) methodologies, tools, and technologies for performance analysis and simulations.
  • Define technical specifications and requirements for new products through VPD simulations, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to secure agreement on essential criteria.
  • Establish comprehensive performance acceptance standards for products; utilize cutting-edge VPD and simulation tools to conduct feasibility assessments of key components, subsystems, and system technologies, providing recommendations for optimal paths forward.
  • Assist machine platform managers by providing VPD insights to inform decision-making; enhance existing product quality through data-driven analysis and comparisons.

Required Skills:

Technical Proficiency: Demonstrated leadership in technical domains with substantial experience in the performance and application of heavy machinery. A deep understanding of intricate engineering concepts and their applications is crucial.

Process Optimization: Familiarity with business process enhancement tools and methodologies; ability to assess, refine, and elevate existing operational processes.

Precision and Detail Orientation: Recognizing the importance of accuracy; capable of executing tasks with exceptional precision.

Analytical Skills: Proficient in techniques and tools that facilitate effective analysis; adept at identifying root causes of organizational challenges and formulating alternative solutions.

Communication Skills: Strong abilities in communication, leadership, project management, and business strategy. Engaging with internal partners, suppliers, customers, and dealers necessitates skills in negotiation, consensus-building, and compromise.

Problem-Solving Acumen: Knowledgeable in approaches and tools for identifying, anticipating, and resolving operational challenges; capable of applying problem-solving knowledge to diverse scenarios.

Project Management Expertise: Understanding of effective project management principles; ability to plan, organize, oversee, and control projects, ensuring optimal use of technical and administrative resources to meet objectives.

Computer-Aided Design & Engineering: Familiarity with specialized graphics software tools; capable of producing, analyzing, simulating, and testing product design drafts.

Educational Background:
