Position Summary:

The Manufacturing Engineering Manager will be responsible for assembling and directing a team of manufacturing engineers. This role involves recruiting, overseeing, training, and guiding team members. The manager will collaborate closely with senior executives, project leaders, engineering heads, and manufacturing staff to ensure the successful execution of manufacturing engineering initiatives. Additionally, this position will act as the principal manufacturing engineer, providing expert technical guidance on critical projects.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Establish and lead a team of manufacturing engineers to develop manufacturing concepts and process solutions.
  • Oversee the creation and assembly of prototypes for new projects that are outsourced.
  • Direct the design and utilization of testing fixtures and systems for manufacturing processes.
  • Manage the layout of equipment and workspace in manufacturing facilities.
  • Support the adoption of Lean Manufacturing practices within the organization.
  • Effectively manage multiple projects in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Allocate manufacturing engineering resources to various project roles as required by engineering and manufacturing leadership.
  • Provide mentorship and support to all manufacturing engineering personnel.
  • Recruit new manufacturing engineers as necessary.
  • Guide and assist manufacturing engineers who are not meeting performance expectations.
  • Report on metrics that assess the impact of the manufacturing engineering team on the broader organization and utilize these metrics for informed decision-making.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including program offices and executive management, as needed.
  • Serve as the manufacturing engineering lead on high-priority projects.
  • Stay updated on technological advancements that could enhance the company's technical capabilities.
  • Develop more efficient and profitable business practices.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in engineering or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 6 years of engineering experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership role, or a combination of education, training, and relevant experience.
  • Experience in low volume/high mix manufacturing settings.
  • Proficient in building and testing hardware prototypes to enhance performance and manufacturability.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and other process improvement methodologies.
