Job Summary

The ideal candidate will assess risks associated with insuring properties and liabilities, evaluate applications, analyze data, and determine coverage terms and premiums to ensure sound underwriting decisions.

About the Role
The Property and Casualty Underwriter will develop and maintain underwriting practices and guidelines as per delegated authority and build relationships with brokers and other stakeholders in the designated portfolio. Key responsibilities include:
  • Underwriting new and renewal property and casualty business, analyzing policy forms, broker endorsement requests, and submitted documentation as per company underwriting standards and guidelines.
  • Determining whether to accept, modify or decline a risk through evaluation of the coverage value, location, usage, safety features, and other factors pertinent to the decision.
  • Determining appropriate coverage limits and insurance premiums, policy terms and conditions based on risk assessment and underwriting guidelines.
  • Delivering services for new property and casualty business and renewals while demonstrating professionalism, technical knowledge, and adherence to underwriting guidelines.

Requirements
The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in Risk Management, Actuarial Science, or Business Administration, with 5+ years of experience in Property and Casualty Underwriting. Licenses and certifications such as state P&C and/or surplus line licenses, Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), are highly desirable.

Ryan Specialty provides a comprehensive benefits package, including paid time off, mental health services, and more. Our target salary range for this position is $96,000 - $120,000 annually. Full-time roles are eligible for bonuses and benefits.
